Mission and Purpose
LavenderCal is UC Berkeley’s network for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer employees. We are staff, faculty, librarians, academic researchers, postdoctoral appointees, and visiting scholars. We welcome the support and participation of allies.
LavenderCal is recognized as an official campus staff organization, supported by the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor for Equity & Inclusion. Representatives of LavenderCal serve on the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee for the LGBT Community at Cal (CAC-LGBT). We are also represented in the system-wide University of California Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Association.
LavenderCal supports the goals of “diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential ingredients of excellence in higher education” — articulated by our campus leadership and the Regents of the University of California. We endorse the UC Berkeley Principles of Community and UC’s non-discrimination policy statements.
LavenderCal invites collaboration with all UC staff organizations and faculty groups, and student and alumni associations.
Affiliation with LavenderCal or participation in any of its activities does not indicate one’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
Goals
* To encourage all LGBTQ staff and faculty to share experiences, resources, and energy.
* To sustain a large, inclusive network of staff and faculty who volunteer effort—little or much, occasionally or regularly—to promote the welfare of the UC LGBTQ communities.
* To assist LGBTQ staff and faculty—incoming, current, and retiring—to participate, without hindrance, in all aspects of campus professional, intellectual, and community life.
* To help bring LGBTQ staff and faculty perspectives and energies to all campus and UC initiatives for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
