Mission
The Supervisors of Student Employees Community of Practice strives to foster a collaborative environment where supervisors of student employees can share knowledge, resources, and best practices to sustainably manage their student employment programs and design equity-oriented experiences for their student workers. This community aims to support professional development, enhance leadership skills, and promote a positive and inclusive work experience for student employees across various departments and roles within UC Berkeley.
We are the only staff organization dedicated to supporting the 1,500–1,800 supervisors of student employees. Our dual role, as both educators of emerging professionals and as mentors to their supervisors, positions us uniquely within the institution and underscores the need for specialized, targeted support.
Goals
The goal of our community space for supervisors of student employees is to:
- Refine student supervisory practices to better support and mentor student employees.
- Grow a supportive network of supervisors of student employees across campus to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Explore sustainable strategies to effectively manage student employment programs.
- Prioritize equity and inclusivity in supervisory approaches and program design.
- Directly support student employees by sharing resources, centering their voices, and actively listening to their needs.
