Mission:
LavenderCal is a member-based organization working to build community and belonging among all LGBTQ+ staff, faculty, postdocs, and visiting scholars at UC Berkeley—inclusive of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression as experienced through the lens of race, ethnicity, disability, class, age, faith, culture, and other intersecting identities.
Vision:
We envision a campus community that values LGBTQ+ people, who represent multiple identities and experiences, so folx have the psychological safety needed to be their authentic selves every day at UC Berkeley. We accomplish this by:
- Voicing LGBTQ+ perspectives in order to advocate for more inclusive policies and practices through an intersectional and racial justice framework
- Providing professional development opportunities through networking and volunteerism
- Creating opportunities for social engagement by fostering collaborative relationships with other identity-based organizations
Accountability:
In the face of social injustices that impact our nation, campus, and local communities, we use our visibility as an officially recognized campus staff organization to uphold the dignity of our community members by:
- Continually assessing campus climate
- Identifying areas for improvement and remaining open to critique
- Confronting barriers caused by institutional oppression and inequity
- Upholding UC Berkeley’s Principles of Community
